Stronger research, and research that reaches the people who need it.
High-quality research is essential for sound policy, innovation and development — but its value is lost if it cannot be conducted rigorously, published credibly, preserved and found. Many institutions have valuable theses, data and publications that remain inaccessible, and many journals and researchers lack the support to meet international publishing standards.
The Research & Knowledge programme supports the full research life-cycle: methodology and data skills, ethics and integrity, research data management, scholarly publishing and editorial capacity, open access (including Diamond Open Access), institutional repositories, and the communication of findings to policy-makers and communities.
Objectives
- Build research methodology, data analysis and proposal-writing skills
- Strengthen scholarly journals, editorial processes and peer review
- Advance open access, including transitions to Diamond Open Access where appropriate
- Preserve institutional knowledge and make it discoverable through repositories
- Improve research integrity, ethics and research management
- Translate research into accessible policy briefs and public knowledge
