Diamond Open Access Transformation Grant

Support for eligible scholarly journals transitioning towards a Diamond Open Access model — free to read and free to publish — in a sustainable way.

This is a planned grant concept and is not yet open. Eligibility criteria, value and deadlines will be published when the Foundation opens the call.

Overview

Diamond Open Access journals charge neither readers nor authors. Moving to this model can widen access to research and remove financial barriers for authors, but it requires a sustainable funding model, sound editorial processes and appropriate licensing. This grant concept supports journals through that transition: business-model planning, policy and licence changes, editorial and technical improvements, and sustainability planning.

Intended for: Journal editors & publishers, Professional bodies, Research institutions, Universities.

How applications are assessed

Selection criteria will be published with the call.

Applications are screened for eligibility and completeness, reviewed and scored by qualified reviewers who have declared any conflicts of interest, and decided by an authorised committee. Automated tools may help check completeness, but funding decisions are always made by people. Read the grant guidelines.
