Lasting change rarely comes from money alone. Finstock Foundation operates as a knowledge and innovation intermediary: we connect challenges with evidence, people with institutions, and good ideas with the resources and capacity to make them work.

Our systems and impact model

1. Identify a challengeStart from a real, well-defined problem faced by learners, researchers, institutions or communities.
2. Convene stakeholdersBring together the institutions, experts, employers and communities who understand the problem and can act on it.
3. Generate evidenceUnderstand the problem through data, research and the experience of those affected.
4. Design solutionsCo-design practical responses that fit the context.
5. Mobilise resourcesCombine Foundation resources with those of partners — funding, expertise, technology and networks.
6. Build capacityStrengthen the skills, systems and institutions that will carry the work forward.
7. ImplementDeliver programmes and grants with clear responsibilities and milestones.
8. Measure impactTrack inputs, activities, outputs, outcomes and long-term impact against defined indicators.
9. Share knowledgePublish what we learn — including what did not work — through our Knowledge Hub.
10. Scale what worksHelp successful approaches spread to more institutions and communities.

What this means in practice

• Grants are one tool among several. Many of our programmes provide training, technical assistance or in-kind support rather than cash.
• We invest in institutions. Strong libraries, research offices, journals and learning systems keep delivering long after a project ends.
• Decisions are made by people. Technology — including AI — may help us organise and summarise information, but funding decisions are always made by authorised human reviewers and committees.
• We measure and publish. We report only verified results, and we say so when figures are not yet available.
